I wore my Polar and my Garmin monitors during my 30 mile ride this morning. The Polar calculated 2000 cal, and the Garmin calculated 2600. You could certainly argue that those are basically the same number, but 600 calories is a lot. That's 3 Krispy Kreme donuts or 3 Hershey's milk chocolate bars. Which number do I use? I'm going to use the Polar calculation. It just uses my heart rate for the calculation. My heart knows if I'm struggling to go uphill or just coasting downhill. I don't know how the Garmin takes that into account.
Sometimes, you can have too much data. As I've said before, a man with one clock knows the time, and a man with two clocks does not.
